En Montant le Soleil se Couche, en Descendant les Corps Pèse
Performance / dance
Duration: Three hours.
In collaboration with Gabriel Moraes Aquino.
As soon as we arrived at the door of the Residence 47, there was a snail before our feet. Perhaps with less attention, we would have crushed it. As time passed, this dynamic became more frequent. The humid nightfall adorned our house with plenty of creatures, slithering and creeping all around.
We therefore changed the way we walked and our relationship to the ground. We started to observe more closely, crawling — finding harmony. We were curious to understand how the environment of a rural place, like Bourgogne, could constitute a space not only of coexistence but also of transformation of the landscape and body.
This project was realized by creating costumes inspired by the surroundings and our individual influences. Followed by a long, slow hike from the Residency’s house, to the fields at the top hills, where the sun would set. During the walk, we crossed the neighboring habitants, cattle, snails, trees, flowers, rivers and streets. Until, periodically, the clothes began to transform falling apart, smelling, weighing and turning colors - gathered from everything in our path.
The actions were seen by those from near and far, from different angles and perspectives. Leading to the return, when the body arrives different from when it left - loaded, full and spent.
